Introduction


The Newcomer Indigenous Education initiative seeks to create a ​comprehensive land-based training and curriculum development ​program at One Spot Campground.

What we do
  1. Promote Mutual Understanding
    • Facilitate cultural exchange programs allowing newcomers and Indigenous

communities to learn from each other.

    • Foster mutual respect and understanding through shared experiences.


2 .Integrate Indigenous Knowledge

    • Develop educational modules incorporating Indigenous histories, cultures, and traditional ecological knowledge.
    • Emphasize the importance of living harmoniously with the earth.


3. Support the TRC Call to Action 93

    • Contribute to revising the newcomer information kit and citizenship test to include comprehensive information about Aboriginal peoples,
    • Treaties, and residential schools' history.


4. Cultural Awareness Workshops

    • Organize workshops and seminars for newcomers focused on the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and histories of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
    • Promote an inclusive narrative through direct engagement and learning.


5. Community Collaboration

    • Establish partnerships between Indigenous organizations and newcomer support groups.
    • Create platforms for dialogue, shared experiences, and collaborative learning.


6. Historical Education

    • Create and distribute educational resources detailing Treaties and residential schools' history.
    • Ensure newcomers understand these historical events' impact on Indigenous communities.


7. Inclusive Curriculum Development

    • Collaborate with educational institutions to develop curricula that reflect a more inclusive history of Canada.
    • Incorporate the perspectives and experiences of Indigenous peoples.


8. Interactive Learning Experiences

    • Develop interactive learning experiences such as virtual reality tours and storytelling sessions.
    • Immerse newcomers in the histories and cultures of Indigenous peoples.

    • Host cultural festivals and events celebrating Indigenous communities' diverse traditions.
    • Invite newcomers to participate and learn through direct engagement.
